THUNG KHRU, Bangkok, Thailand
On Saturday, July 20, YNX Volunteers will visit Thung Khru, one of Bangkok’s “50 Districts,” and a community that is only a twelve minute drive from the Yannix facility.
Thung Khru (aka Bangmod) is famous for its agriculture, and in particular, the special “Bangmod Oranges” that are grown there.
Sadly, the Thung Khru Community has been slow to recover from the devastating floods that hit Thailand back in 1995. Since then, the orange crop has suffered and overall tourism has been down as a result.
On Saturday, YNX Volunteers will lend a hand to create a scenic backdrop to serve as a Welcoming Point for visitors to the Thung Khru District. The YNX Volunteers will design and create a Sign Board, which will serve to educate and inform visitors of the rich history of the District. The Volunteers will also paint coconut shells to use as part of a large public mobile and they will construct a bamboo screen where visitors can enjoy scenic views of the local topography.
The objective is to work with the local community to establish a “location pin” for Thung Khru so visitors can take photographs and share them on social media to raise awareness about the wonderful district that is Thung Khru.
This Saturday is only the beginning. Yannix, through the “Give It 2 Get It” program, will continue to work with the “Small and Micro-Community Enterprise” (SMCE) to organize future events locally that will focus on issues like to conservation and water restoration.
